Mathematical Statistics and their Applications

Mathematical statistics is concerned with the development of mathematical models for the analysis of observed or collected data. In particular, the estimation of the unknown probabilities underlying the data and the testing of hypotheses about these probability distributions are of interest. Statistics has applications in all areas of science.

The research group is mainly focused on non-parametric and semi-parametric statistics. These do not require restrictive model assumptions, so that false conclusions in case of mis-specification of a parametric model can be avoided.
