Adaptive methods for plasma simulation
In order to be able to simulate more complex problems in
plasma physics
or in beam physics, one needs to improve the efficiency of the
numerical methods.
One approach in this direction is to use multiresolution methods and
adaptive
mesh refinement techniques. In this talk we shall describe adaptive
grid based
solvers for the Vlasov equation and point out some issues that need to
be addressed
when going from a uniform to an adaptive grid. We shall also briefly
discuss
the Particle-In-Cell (PIC) method on an adaptive grid for the field
solver.
