Contents:
In this series of lectures, various aspects of regional climate modelling will be discussed. The following outline highlights the issues that need to be considered. Not all topics will be covered in detail. The main focus of the lectures will be on discussions of problem areas and possible solutions:

  • Introduction
  • Approaches to climate modelling
  • IPCC
  • Why use a regional climate model (RCM)?
  • What is a regional climate model?
  • Problems with RCM
  • Quality and reliability of RCM
  • Analysis of RCM
  • Future of RCM

Objectives:
Give an overview on current aspects of regional climate modelling
Conditions:
This lecture is part of the study program for the Research Training Group on "Conservation principles in the modelling and simulation of marine, atmospherical and technical systems" (Graduiertenkolleg) and of the International Max Planck Research Schools (IMPRS) on Earth System Modelling. The lecture is open to other students.
