About the SIAM Student Chapter
and GAMM Nachwuchsgruppe Hamburg
Who we are
We are a group of students of University of Hamburg joint under the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and the International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (GAMM) in order to further the application of mathematics to industry and science, promote research efforts in mathematics and provide media for the exchange of information and ideas between mathematicians and other technical and scientific personnel.
What we do
We provide our members with opportunities to develop a wide range of communication, leadership and teamwork skills while ensuring exchange of experience, awareness of the current topics and information on careers and job opportunities. A strong interaction between researchers working in the different fields of Mathematical Modeling, as well as communication between Bachelor's, Master's, Ph.D. students, postdocs, and faculty members is of great importance for us. That is why we encourage and promote it by:
- organizing regular student seminars (as well as colloquiums with guest speakers),
- hosting social activities in order to foster interdisciplinary cooperation and networking,
- representing applied mathematics, with emphasis on Mathematical Modeling and Numerical Solvers, through different media, and
- maintaining the Alumni Network.
