There is some properties you should watch:

• In the first steps, nothing seems to happen. In these steps only vertices are removed, which are unimportant for the contour of the shape. In these steps noise reduction takes place.
• After you moved the slider about 70%, you get an abstracted version of the original shape, there is only that subset of vertices left, which defines important features of the original contour. The evolution changes here from noise reduction to shape simplification .
• Going on with the evolution, the shape becomes drastically simplified, always ending in a convex contour.
