Integration competition "Das Heilige InteGral"
On Wednesday, November 11, the first competition "Das Heilige Integral" ("The Holy InteGrail") was held by the SIAM Student Chapter Hamburg (refer here for the rules of the contest and further details).
We have finally found it - the Holy InteGrail has been found! It took us 300 chocolate coins, 72 integrals and 42 minutes! In three rounds seven participants competed with each other. The first and the second rounds ran smoothly and students solved integrals mostly by themselves, rewarded with chocolate coins for each solved integral.
In the final, three individual integrals with different complexity waited for each of the four remaining integral artists. Our expert Benedikt gave very useful hints for just one chocolate coin. The third place was reached by Nauman Ahmad who collected 27 coins. Jonas Wrage came in on second place with 30 chocolate coins. And his five coins more brought Sayedali Shetab Bousheri the victory. Additionally the winner received the book "Spline Functions: Computational Methods" and the golden Grail full of chocolate. While all finalists got a SIAM shirt, all those who had not reached the final got a consolation beer. We all had a lot of fun!
We would like to thank all student chapter officers, who actively participated in the preparation of the event and did a great job! Thanks a lot to all participants as well. A guest from the Hamburg University of Technology - a student of computer science - promised to organize a similar event, on the topic of programming. We are looking forward to it!
