The colloquium is part of a series of colloquia held to honor the memory of Lothar Collatz. For the sixth time the Department of Mathematics (formerly the Institute for Applied Mathematics) is carrying out an International Colloquium on the Applications of Mathematics. This time as well the Colloquium is dedicated to the former director of the Institute for Applied Mathematics, the Mathematical Seminar and the founder of the computing center, Prof. Dr. Dr. mult. h.c. Lothar Collatz. This year's colloquium is held on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his death (September 26) and of the anniversary of his 90th birthday (July 6).

Like the former colloquia a forum for representatives of industry and academics is offered to present new results in the area of applications of mathematics and to discuss them in an international environment. The conference language is English.
