Excursions in Hamburg

Here are some suggestions for excursions in Hamburg.

Trip on the Elbe

  • Go to the subway stop Schlump which is at 10 minutes from the mathematics department.
  • Get a ticket for public transport, e.g. the ``9-Uhr-Tagesticket'', which is valid all day after 9am. You can get it at the vending machine for 6 euros.
  • Take subway line U3 (yellow line) direction Hauptbahnhof Süd till stop Landungsbrücken. This is the harbour front.
  • Some of the boats in the harbour are part of public transport and you can use them with the ``9-Uhr-Tagesticket'' for free.
  • You can take ferry line 62 leaving at bridge 3 every 15 minutes. It is suggested that you go to Finkenwerder and back to Landungsbrücken.
  • If you want, you can have a stop at the museum harbour Oevelgönne at the stop Neumühlen.

    Kunsthalle

    Germany does not have a national museum; the Kunsthalle is a museum of fine arts of national rank. It excels in late medieval arts and romantic paintings (Caspar David Friedrich). At present it undergoes renovation work, but a condensed collection is on display.
