Control concepts for parabolic equations with an application to the control of fluid flow

Two approaches for obtaining control laws for time-dependent problems are presented. Applying instantaneous control an optimization problem is solved at each time step of the discretized problem. The reduced order modelling approach makes use of a suitable finite-dimensional approximation of the system under consideration and computes optimal controls for the reduced equations. Numerical examples demonstrate the scope of the approaches.
