Newton's method for tracking type control of the instationary Navier-Stokes equations

Newton's method for optimal open loop optimal control of the instationary Navier-Stokes equation is investigated. It is argued that the a-priori formidable Newton step can be decomposed into nonlinear primal and linear adjoint systems, which is amenable for existing CFL-software. We report a numerical test which demonstrates the feasiblity of the approach. In addition the functional analytic setting of the convergence analysis is presented.
